Rhode Island expected to increase health care jobs 19% by 2020

According to a new Georgetown University study, health care jobs are expected to grow at a higher rate in most states than other job sectors. The study measured projected growth from 2010 through 2020.

Rhode Island health care jobs are expected to increase 19 percent by 2020 to a total of 85,300 jobs, up from 71,970 jobs in 2010. This is compared to 16% growth across non health care sectors.

Nursing and support jobs are expected to grow by 25% and 39% respectively.

The job increase is partly in response to the recent supreme court ruling on health care, and an aging baby boomer population expected to increasingly be in need of medical care.
